Our Mission

Consideration Beyond A Single Design

Legacies will disintegrate without a planet that gathers together our heritages. Our collective responsibility is to put to right the impact of past choices, to design a healthier path for today, and to gift future generations with opportunities to shape the story of humankind.

Through interior design, Persona Abode endeavours to authentically create space for wellness by prioritising health, happiness and beauty in all home areas. The developed solutions focus on the lives of every occupant and how they express love and compassion for those who matter the most, including the world that nurtures and shelters them.

Wellbeing Focused Interior Design

Healthy Living Advocate

Growing up with allergies and living with a family member navigating health and fitness challenges, made Jecks very aware of how interior design can help your well-being. Whether the air quality or how the room's layout aids mobility, a good-looking room fails if it does not function well.

Persona Abode takes a research-based approach by regularly studying the latest developments in sustainable design. Jecks studied at the Parsons School of Designs, Healthy Materials Lab's four-course programme in Healthier Materials and Sustainable Building, brings these resources into the studio.

Persona Abode’s Values

People, Place & Planet™️

Designing with integrity is paramount to the running of the company. The aim is to honour people, place & planet, which is reflected in design methods used to provide interior design services as well as the running of the company.

people

Over 8 billion people are deeply connected to the indoor and outdoor spaces we find ourselves in, throughout our lives. Occupying indoor space accounts for 80-90% of our time. Those shelters should be healthy and safe, whilst also providing the ability to navigate with dignity.

It takes a collective of individuals to create a home. Consideration must be given to how design affects those who will never see the completed project but have contributed their skills, knowledge and craft.

place

The places we occupy are closely tied to our identity. They hold our memories just as much as they shield us from the elements. The buildings themselves mark a point in history. They require attention to remain habitable and functional for our needs today and in the future.

Jecks draws from her sixteen years of experience managing historic building conservation projects to express empathy toward the architecture within the scope of designings interiors.

& planet

The home of humankind is wondrous and giving. But there’s only one. The planet’s natural resources make up our building blocks, while our immediate surroundings play a significant part in the possibilities for the buildings here.

Persona Abode approaches projects from a sustainability perspective. Locally sourcing, where possible, as well as considering the environment’s impact at all stages of a piece of furniture’s lifecycle.

The Impact of Interior Design

Interior Design Declares

Climate change is a global concern. Interior designers are beginning to acknowledge their responsibility in creating spaces that serve a greater purpose than providing aesthetic appeal by prioritising ecological considerations. After all, the consequences of design decisions are felt environmentally, and research reveals, also within our DNA.

Interior Design Declares is a movement that emerged within the larger realm of the construction industry via Built Environment Declares. A collective of nine UK interior design practices, including Persona Abode, founded Interior Design Declares in March 2021. Each practice pledged to make positive strides in cleaning up the industry as a direct response to the growing climate and biodiversity concerns

Knowing that construction makes up 62% of the total UK’s waste (according to the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, 2018), and interior design comes at the tail end of construction, our contribution is ours to take responsibility for. Collectively, Interior Design Declares calls for radical change in behaviours throughout the industry.

The movement is a sustainability voice and resource-sharing hub for designers and suppliers. The signatories established a 12-point declaration to effect change and actively called upon other interior designers and suppliers to commit to doing better for the greater good. Sustainability and Consequences of Inaction

the Facts

1.6m

tonnes to landfill

Did you know that some 7.5 million mattresses per year are taken to landfill? Along with other items of furniture which head to one of the UK’s 574 sites, it is not sustainable to continue on this path.

Alternative solutions must be found to steer away from landfill including making furniture to last, buying pieces with healthier materials, and re-imagining furniture time and time again (circular).

90%

time indoors

We navigate several indoor environments in our daily life, which makes up 80-90% of our time. That’s equivalent to a staggering 22 hours a day.

Limiting time spent outdoors, connecting with nature, or simply escaping the confines of the four walls can be a trigger of many health and well-being issues. It leaves a dent in how we show up in the world, whether for ourselves or for others.

#1

health challenges

Air pollution is the number one health concern globally. With indoor air quality 3.5 times as polluted as outdoors, what you surround yourself with indoors can have a considerable impact on your health.

Indoor air quality affects the richness of our sleep and impacts the health of our skin and other organs in the body. Air is polluted by how the activities we take part in at home. Therefore, designing tailor-made solutions is the key to designing for your health & wellbeing.

interior design as a solution

Using the latest research from neuroscience, neuroaesthetics and wellness standards, Persona Abode aims to influence the impact of life indoors in a positive way. Creative design solutions are matched with sustainability & regeneration choices that make sense of your lifestyle and your property help to mitigate the consequences of design decisions on the planet and on those using your home.

Vegan Interior Design

Cruelty Free Vegan Design

Part of the driving force behind the vegan lifestyle is extending kindness to the animal kingdom and stomping out exploitation for human gain.

How does this apply to interior design?

Like fashion and diet, a vegan interior eliminates animal-derived products from the process and outcome. Outside materials like wool and leather, do you know where animals have been used to make our fabrics, furniture and components that make up an indoor environment?

Not only a benefit to homeowners who have adopted a vegan lifestyle, removing animal-based products helps those with allergies, neurodivergent sensitivities and the ethical conscience consumer.

Vegandesign.org® certified since 2017

Persona Abode obtained the vegandesign.org certification in 2017 to offer interior design services in line with founder Jecks’ lifestyle. Get in touch to discuss the alternative materials we can use to design a cosy environment that can stand the test of time and taste.

We have the ability to choose what traditions are relevant in today’s society and which to leave as part of our evolutionary history.

Interior design holds some of that knowledge. The industry also must take some of responsibility to move forward with the tools that can shape the future and pay homage to the past without using practices that cause harm because at the time we didn’t know any better.

Our Suppliers

All Furniture is not created equally

Furniture comes in all shapes, qualities and sizes. The same applies to accessories and surface finishes. Quality materials, craftsmanship and commitment to ethical practices are three factors considered when it comes to sourcing.

Partnering with suppliers who understand the core values of Persona Abode directly affects the design that can be delivered on each project. Time is taken to understand product lines and services and discover diverse makers and products from marginalised communities.
